What is "self-publishing"? Who are some famous writers who self-published? What is a small press? What is Rock Island Press and what does it have to offer me? History of Rock Island Press |
If your goal is to publish your book so friends and family can read it, Rock Island Press is the publishing company for you. If you are hoping for fame and fortune, we are a great place to start. When you publish with Rock Island Press, you will end up with a high-quality product that you can proudly distribute. Your friends and family will be able to purchase copies from our site, and you can use copies to gain wider recognition if you desire. We cannot, however, make your book available at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com, etc. We could, but Amazon charges a 55% commission for selling small press books. That means that a book we sell for $10.00 on our site with a 40% profit, would become a 5% loss if we sold it on Amazon. We would have to raise the price to $22.00 to make the same profit on Amazon. Likewise, Barnes and Noble bookstores do not like to stock small press books. It's not impossible, but we have found better success by placing books in used bookstores, gift shops, craft shops, and souvenir shops. What do Rock Island Press have to offer that makes it the best deal? I've looked at dozens of sites trying to find the best deal. Rock Island Press has them all beat. Many sites offer "print-on-demand". The writer sends in his manuscript and a check ranging from $200 to $1,400. In return, the author gets 5 - 10 copies of the book and distribution through the publisher's site and Amazon, etc. After Amazon takes its commission, and the publisher subtracts the printing costs and fees and its commission, how much do you think will be left for the author? Not much. At Rock Island Press, we operate with one goal in mind: to put your book in print. For more information, use this link to contact us. |
