“Self-Publishing” is exactly what it says: The author publishes his own book, but what does it mean to publish a book? When I tell people that I have six books published, they want to know if they can buy a copy at the bookstore. I avoid the question and tell them “I have one right here I’ll sell you.” Part of publishing a book is distribution, and that’s a difficult task for an unknown author. Other people question the whole idea of self-publishing, thinking that if the book is any good, the author should be able to find a publisher without any problem.
